are and exotic are the words Rita Hyams, award-winning designer from San Anselmo, California, uses to describe her gem-intense custom made jewels in rich 18k and 22k gold and platinum.

Rita discovered her fascination with gems in 1998 and acted upon it by attending the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) in Carlsbad, California, where she graduated with a degree in gemology. In the short time she has been developing her jewelry line Rita has already received a Spectrum Design Award from the American Gem Trade Association in 2003 and has had her pieces showcased in many trade magazines including Professional Jeweler and Modern Jeweler.

Rita surrounds herself with people who share in her passion for gems in the award-winning cutters and metalsmiths she uses to bring her creations to life. "I've found kindred spirits in the people with whom I work." We all want to do something that's out of the ordinary, always striving for perfection."

Every gemstone in her designs is selected for the quality of material, as well as the artistry of its cut. For Rita, a stone's shape, cut and color determine the form her pieces will take. The fluid lines in her settings are designed as a continuation of one breathtaking stone. And, her idea of accent is to burnish diamonds in the shank that only the wearer knows are there. Her pieces are bold, but in color and structure. The designs themselves are simple and elegant.

Rita is an affiliate member of the American Gem Trade Association, California Jewelers Association, and GIA Alumni Association. Her collection includes one-of-a-kind and limited edition jewels designed to be works of art that can be worn for generations to come.
